elevation proudly announces our DJ, yu ihara from Brooklyn who has been playing in the hip hop field from the 90s. His smooth mixing of Jazzy hiphop is now applied to real jazz and funk music of Teruo Nakamura.

Our label officially collaborates with his label called “Cheetah Label” to let you share just a part of his timeless grooves from the 70s as a short jazzy hiphop mix. It’s a free download so don’t miss it!

Teruo Nakamura is a Jazz Bassist & Producer who has been living in New York City for more than 4 decades. During this time, he has produced over 50 albums many of which include performances by such legendary musicians as Stanley Turrentine, George Benson, Roy Haynes, Grover Washington, Nona Hendryx, Hellen Merrill, Herbie Hancock and many other world class players.

Hip hop listeners may know him from The Roots feat. Q-Tip
"Ital (The Universal Side)" released from DGC in 1996,which sampled his song “Cat” released from Polydor in 1976.

Even the music in the mix came out in the 70s, it still sounds fresh even in today’s world. Musicians like him have paved the way for following young musicians like us who have come to NY to follow our own dreams. We are proud to announce this free DJ mix to show our appreciation as a Japanese living in NYC today!

日本が誇る伝説のベーシストであり、Cheetah Labelのプロデューサーでもある中村照夫さんの７０年代グルーヴを、Jazzy HipHop関連の楽曲に携わってきたelevation からyu iharaによるHip Hopのテイストを織り交ぜたDJミックスとしてご紹介致します。

このプロジェクトは、我々のレーベルとCheetah Label (PONYCANYON) のオフィシャルコラボレーションとして制作された無料ダウンロード用のDJミックスです。

中村照夫さんは、４０年近くニューヨークに住んでいるジャズベーシスト／プロデューサーで、これまでに５０を超えるアルバムをプロデュースしています。その中には、Stanley Turrentine, George Benson, Roy Haynes, Grover Washington, Nona Hendryx, Hellen Merrill, Herbie Hancock 等、世界的に有名なミュージシャン達が名を連ねています。

ヒップホップのリスナーの間では知られているかもしれませんが、９６年にリリースされた、The Roots feat. Q-Tip
"Ital (The Universal Side)" は、照夫さんがポリドールより７６年にリリースしたアルバムに収録されている“Cat”が原曲なんです。

およそ７０年代に発表され、今も色あせることなくまわる黒い盤から流れる音は、まさに次世代に語り継がれるべき我々にとっての遺産。今日本人がニューヨークで音楽活動できるのは、照夫さんのようなニューヨークの日本人達の活躍があったから他なりません。感謝の意を込めて厳選し制作したミックス、中村照夫さんを知ってる人はもちろん、聴いた事無いという人にこそ是非、聴いていただきたいです。
